Basic Automotive Systems - Tech-Foundations (42709)
Students build and use:
- Bar with a worm gear pair
- Turntable
- Crank gears
- Planetary gears
- Bevel and differential gears
- Gearbox
- Vehicle with drives
- Vehicle with steering
They complete activities, experiments, and worksheets that guide them through the evaluation of each type of mechanism. They experiment with different types and sizes of toothed gears. These can be used to reduce the RPM of a motor, transmit a rotational movement, increase or decrease the rotational force, or change the direction of rotation. Students experiment with some important mechanisms used in cars such as differential gears, gearboxes, and steering systems.
