Design Level 2 - Tech-World
Students begin their second year of study by reviewing the design process as applied to a single object. Using CAD, students create a 3D model of their design, and once the model is complete, they use it to produce technical drawings.
Students then progress into designing a product that is composed of multiple components. Using advanced CAD commands, students design a variety of components according to scale specifications and the design criteria of functionality, safety, and ergonomics. These components are assembled into a final product, and multi-view drawings are created.
When the design is complete, students transfer it to the modeling software program where it is tested under a variety of conditions. Designs are modified until the testing conditions are met and the design team is satisfied with the product.
Finally, students prepare a report to document the team results for a supervisor. The Tech-World Design CELL requires students to interpret information, make design decisions, and justify those decisions in a simulated-work environment. These experiences provide students with the skills and knowledge that will set them on the road towards a career in product design.
