In this module, students learn the importance of handling banking responsibilities, keeping clear financial records, and managing resources. As students complete each lesson, they arm themselves with the knowledge they need to become shrewd and savvy consumers while learning how to use technology to find the products they want at the best prices. They also learn how to preserve the environment and conserve natural resources by choosing energy-efficient products. In addition, students explore some of the careers available to them in the field of consumer services and learn how to avoid common consumer scams by becoming familiar with consumer rights and policies.

Consumer Reports provides free information on a number of topics, including consumer protection and general advice on selecting products. Specific product descriptions and ratings require a subscription fee.
Federal Trade Commission
The Federal Trade Commission helps protect consumers' rights to information. It makes sure that businesses do not engage in unfair competition and false advertising. The site contains information about the National Do Not Call Registry.
Greenpeace International
The Greenpeace International website describes new issues and its current efforts to preserve the environment.
Public Citizen
Public Citizen is a non-profit consumer advocacy organization. At this website, the student can read about issues related to motor vehicles, food, the environment, the economy, and many others.
Sierra Club
The Sierra Club has been involved in preserving our environment for over 100 years. This special section contains information about sprawl and urban redevelopment. The site also includes computer-generated simulations which demonstrate how sprawling communities can be made more livable.
U.S. Environment Protection Agency
U.S. Environment Protection Agency has information on all of the topics it regulates. A special student section will help your learn more about current environmental issues.
U.S. Food and Drug Administration
U.S. Food and Drug Administration website contains information on all of the products it regulates: food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, etc.
United Nations
The United Nations website provides updates on its actions regarding critical world events and issues. There also are extensive pages devoted to promoting education on global issues and the UN itself.
United States Consumer Product Safety Commission
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission examines consumer's complaints about unsafe products. The site contains information on recalls and product safety news.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
The NHTSA initiates and enforces motor vehicle safety standards and they report on safety defects. They provide motor vehicle crash test results.
