Desktop Publishing (40014-70)
First, students learn about the basic principles of design, layout, and typography, and they are introduced to a professional page layout software program. Then, they apply this knowledge in designing and producing original documents. While students have the opportunity to experiment with various design techniques and explore their creative abilities, they also complete projects to meet specific requirements. This is an essential skill for success in desktop publishing careers, in which students may develop an interest as a result of these learning experiences.
Students design posters and advertisements with text, as well as artwork that they modify and import with a scanner and related software. This software provides image-editing tools that can change the resolution, size, brightness, and angle of images. Through use of these various design tools, students demonstrate their understanding of style, balance of artwork and typography, and other fundamentals of page design.
