Artificial Intelligence (40085-70)

Students explore the potential of computers, how a computer can "think," and the history and future of AI. Other topics of discussion include the nature of thought and thinking, comparing the human brain with a computer, and the relationships among science fiction, robots, and AI.

Technical topics include neural nets, fuzzy logic, and major safety operations in using AI systems. In later segments of the module, students learn about advanced programs and "natural languages." Students also program and operate an AI robot, and construct an expert system. These activities enable them to demonstrate the functions of an AI machine and identify potential uses for such equipment.
