Air Handling / Energy Management Training System (3403)

The unit includes fresh air, return air, and exhaust air ducts. A variable speed blower and mixing dampers (motor driven and mechanically linked) are used to control air flow. A cooling coil, complete with condensing unit, and electric pre-heat and re-heat provide the temperature variations.

A humidifier and dehumidifier are provided to condition the circulating air. Thermoplastic windows on the trainer ducting allow the student to observe the operation of all air handling devices. The training system is controlled primarily by an Allen-Bradley PLC-5 programmable logic controller.

The system controls include low-pressure switch, thermostatic expansion valve, solenoid valves, and thermostatic controllers. Instrumentation includes humidity transmitters, thermocouples, strip chart recorder, and indicator lamps.

Sixteen fault-insertion switches are available for instructor-inserted system faulting. After a stable operating condition is created, students can troubleshoot a faulted system to determine the point of system failure and the probable cause.

Specialized training software is provided to facilitate the creation and monitoring of ladder diagrams. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) software is provided to access trends, loop displays, and alarm summaries. All necessary hardware, including an IBM compatible computer, color monitor, and printer is included.
