FACET® Circuit Boards and Courses

FACET® Circuit Boards are manufactured on multi-layer, G-10, glass-epoxy PC board stock with 2-ounce copper. They are finished with a black matte coating to enhance readability of circuit diagrams. The circuit diagrams appear in white in circuit blocks associated with the course's laboratory procedures.

Each FACET Course contains subject matter Units. Each course is preceded by a pre-test and ends with a post-test. The number of Units in a course range from 5 to 14 Units. Each Unit contains the following sections:

  • Unit Objective
  • Unit Fundamentals
  • Equipment Required
  • Exercises (several)
  • Unit Test
  • Troubleshooting
  • Unit Progress

Each FACET Exercise within a Unit contains the following:

  • Exercise Objective
  • Discussion (theory is discussed)
  • Procedure (hands-on measurements and observations)
  • Conclusions (exercise summary)
  • Review Questions

Throughout the entire Tech-Lab® FACET course interactive questions, including those requiring real-number answers, are asked. Positive feedback is given to reinforce a correct answer or help the student to answer correctly.

The built-in Unit Progress reporting system keeps track of the student's progress and scores the student's answers to the Unit Test.

Each Unit contains a Troubleshooting section. With a Tech-Lab FACET System, a circuit fault is automatically inserted into the circuit. With the manual FACET System, the instructor activates a hidden fault switch to insert the fault. The student must systematically locate the fault by applying logical troubleshooting procedures.

Tech-Lab FACET courses are provided on the following CD-ROMs:

  • CD-ROM: 26 Tech-Lab FACET courses (94600-W0)
  • CD-ROM: Basic Electricity and Electronics Courses (94601-WO)
  • CD-ROM: Digital and Microprocessor Electronics Courses (94602-WO)
  • CD-ROM: Industrial Electronics Courses (94603-WO)
  • CD-ROM: Communications Systems Courses (94604-WO)

A Tech-Lab FACET Computer-Based Laboratory Student Workbook is included with each FACET Circuit Board. The workbook is divided into Units that correspond to the Units in the course. Each Unit within the Student Workbook provides the student with the following information:

  • Unit Objective
  • Unit Fundamentals
  • New Terms and Words
  • Exercise Objectives
  • A list of the key points covered in the exercise discussion
  • A space after each section in the unit for student notes

With the manual FACET System, the student uses a Student Manual that contains the complete course curriculum for the Circuit Board. With each board for a manual FACET System, Lab-Volt provides one Student Manual if requested.

Electronics Workbench (EWB) MultiSIM circuit-design software is a powerful yet intuitive schematic capture and simulation package. It is available for use with the Tech-Lab FACET courses. The EWB program can be provided on a CD-ROM with the Tech-Lab FACET System and Utilities program.
