Electromechanical Systems Simulation Software (LVSIM®-EMS) (8970)

Cannot run EMS Visual Tour directly from CD-ROM after installing another Lab-Volt application.

Patch ID: pf1001

Release Date: 1997/06/27

Affected Model(s): 8970

Affected Product(s): LVSIM®-EMS 1.21, EMS Visual Tour 1.21 Brief Description of the Problem:
Cannot run EMS Visual Tour directly from CD-ROM after installing another Lab-Volt application. Full Description of the Problem:
If you install the EMS Visual Tour application to run directly from the CD-ROM, the following lines will be added in the [LVTOUR EMS 1.21] section of the LABVOLT.INI file (located in folder Windows):

[LVTOUR EMS 1.21]

Application Name=EMS VISUAL TOUR

Path=X:\\LVSIM\\\\EMSVT121

("X" represents the drive letter of your CD Drive)

If you later install another Lab-Volt application, the Lab-Volt Setup program will verify that each path in the LABVOLT.INI file is valid. If a path is not valid, the whole section will be removed from the .INI file. If the LVSIM®-EMS 1.21 CD-ROM is not present in your CD Drive while checking the path for LVTOUR EMS, the [LVTOUR EMS 1.21] section will be deleted. Then, the next time you want to run EMS Visual Tour, the application will be unreachable. How to Fix:
Three solutions are suggested:

  1. Let the LVSIM®-EMS 1.21 CD-ROM in your CD Drive while installing other Lab-Volt applications.
  2. Reinstall the EMS Visual Tour application to run directly from CD-ROM.
  3. If the other Lab-Volt application can also be run directly from the CD-ROM (e.g. EMS CBL 1.2), update the [LVTOUR EMS 1.21] section by adding the above lines in the LABVOLT.INI file.

Drivers for the PCI network security device are missing on the CD-ROM.

Meters in the Metering prog show "1234". After clicking Refresh..."Illegal Function Call" appears.

Patch ID: pf1006

Release Date: 1997/09/19

Affected Model(s): 8970, 9061

Affected Product(s): LVSIM®-EMS 1.2x, LVDAM-EMS 1.2x

Brief Description of the Problem:

Meters in the Metering program show "1234". After clicking the Refresh button in the Oscilloscope program, an "Illegal Function Call" message appears.

Full Description of the Problem:
SIMUL.DLL, that is part of the LVDAM-EMS program, does not work without a math co-processor. SIMUL.DLL is used only when LVDAM-EMS is in Simulation mode (with simulation parameters), or in Virtuality mode (with LVSIM-EMS). Without a math co-processor, the Metering program shows "1234" on all active meters, and an "Illegal Function Call" message appears after clicking the Refresh button in the Oscilloscope program.

How to Fix:
Two solutions are suggested:

  1. Go to the CMOS Setup of your PC, and enable your math co-processor.
  2. If you don't have a math co-processor, replace the SIMUL.DLL file in the \\\\LVDAM\\\\EMS1_2x folder by the updated SIMUL.DLL file. This updated file will work with or without a Math co-processor. This file is available by downloading and running the self extracting file PF1006.EXE.
